Soften the chopped onion in a little oilin a saucepan, add the chopped garlic towards the end.
Strip the thyme from the stalks, chop and add to the onions.
Drain the beans from their liquor and stir into the onion mixture. season with salt and pepper to taste.
Simmer over a low light for ten minutes or so stirring from time to time. Check the seasoning before serving.
